A Brief History of Our Lodges

A petition to form the Mark Lodge was signed in Whitstable Mark Lodge on 1st March 1943. The Consecration, by The Provincial Grand Master - R.W.Bro. the RT. Hon. The Lord Harris, subsequently took place at the Recreation Club in East Street on Saturday 3rd April.

There were 20 Founders, mainly from Canterbury's St Martin's Mark Lodge No.262 and Whitstable Mark Lodge No.938

On 10th November 1980, nearly 40 years after the Mark Lodge was Consecrated, a petition was presented in the Mark Lodge to Consecrate an anchored Royal Ark Mariner Lodge of the same name and number. There were 20 potential Founders - 12 from The Nore in Whitstable, 4 from Adams in Sheerness, 2 from Dover & Cinque Ports in Dover and 2 from St Michael's in Sittingbourne.

The Lodge was Consecrated, at the Faversham Masonic Centre on Saturday 16th May 1981, by the Provincial Grand Master R.W.Bro. Guy Rudgard, who was at that time the senior Past Master of the Mark Lodge.

Our name originates from the Craft Lodge of Harmony No.133, which has been meeting in the town since 1764.

The Mark Lodge, which is open to subscribing Master Masons, meets on the second Mondays of February, April (Installation), October and November.

The Royal Ark Mariner Lodge, which is open to subscribing Mark Master Masons, meets on the first Thursdays of January, March, May (Installation) and December.
